So did you know that in Delaware, the Horseshoe crab was almost on the endangered species list? And as a result, that the Red Naught population (the migratory bird that feeds off of Horseshoe crab eggs) was also getting dangerously low? Yeah neither did I until Faith and I saw a documentary a year ago. On the documentary they highlighting some of the rescue efforts made by local volunteers. One task was to count the crab population during the full moons of their mating season! I told Faith when we saw it that it would be really cool to do that some day…well, we volunteered a couple nights ago to be a part of that rescue effort. We spent a few hours late Wednesday night on Bennet’s Beach taking sample counts of the mating Horseshoe crabs to see where the population was! It was definitely something different! Can’t say I’ve ever done anything like it. When we arrived, the weather was looking a little sketchy with scattered thunderstorms but by the end of the night we had a full moon lighting up the beach! It was beautiful…anyway, click the picture to check it out!
